Why we Jump the Gun

Filip Gesiarz, Donal Cahill and Tali Sharot of University College London, U.K have produced results of a study which show that people stop gathering evidence earlier when the data supports their desired conclusion than when it supports the conclusion they wish was false. The conclusion was observed earlier but the reasons behind this bias were previously unknown. In the experiment, 84 volunteers were asked to gather as much evidence as they wanted to help them make judgments and were paid according to how accurate they were. Points would be given if the results pointed to a certain category and therefore the only way for volunteers to maximize rewards was to provide accurate responses but it was shown that the volunteers stopped gathering data earlier when it supported the conclusion they wished was true than when it supported the undesirable conclusion. Even though limitless information is now available to us at our fingertips we do not make the best use of this wealth of information.

The proficient understanding of the above-mentioned facts add to the increasing influx of tourists that aim for medical tourism in Kerala and one of the very first steps that need to be implemented is the use of medical disposables such as probe covers into the general system of health care.
