The History Of Medical Tourism
When you think about it, medical tourism has been in existence from thousands of years. Pilgrims and patients in ancient Greece came from all over the Mediterranean to seek the blessings of the healing god, Asklepios, at the Greek city of Epidaurus. Similarly, in Britain, ill people took the waters at a shrine at Bath. This practice continued for over two thousand years. Wealthy Europeans travelled from Germany to the spas in the Nile in the eighteenth century. In the eighteenth century England, the ill visited spas because they believed those to have mineral water that cured gout and liver disorders and also bronchitis. These spa towns and sanitariums are considered as the earliest forms of medical tourism.
The above-mentioned facts add to the increasing influx of tourists who aim for medical tourism in Kerala, where one of the first steps to be implemented is the use of medical disposables like probe covers into the health care system.
