The Dutch reach

Don't let the title fool you, this is not some sort of tourism promotion pack but an idea that can save one's life. The Dutch reach is a simple manoeuvre where a car door is opened with the hand farthest from the handle. Which means in our nation we must open the driver seat door using our left hand. The advantage is that the driver is forced to turn their body towards the door thereby giving them the opportunity to look over their shoulder and see if a motorcyclist is speeding towards the door. The name originated from Netherlands where children are taught from school this life saving trick.

Atleast once every week, we can get the report of some motorcyclist that has met with an injury due to the negligence of the driver who opened the door without thorough checking. You might think this is something small, but you will be amazed about how the most simplest of ideas makes the most sense
