The Circadian Rhythm

The human body has several inbuilt systems that work on the basis of how we have evolved throughout history. One such factor is our circadian rhythm which is heavily based on the amount of natural light that we receive. Our eyes have over 30,000 cells that can sense blue light. These cells assist in the production of melatonin which is a chemical released by the brain especially in the night that is necessary for sleep. Only if adequate amounts of melatonin are released do we get that refreshed feeling after sleep. The problem arises is that none of the artificial light sources that we have currently can replicate the blue light wavelength of natural light and therefore our circadian rhythm gets altered. The disadvantages of the imbalance of our circadian rhythm causes are:

• Lack of proper sleep

• Tiredness

• Restlessness

• Timid behaviour

The proficient check and clearing of the above-mentioned facts add to the increasing influx of tourists that aim for medical tourism in Kerala and the very first step that one needs to implement is the use of medical disposables such as probe covers into the general system of health care.
