Scope of Medical Tourism in India

India is growing fast to be the leading country that promotes medical tourism and is slowly moving the area of “medical outsourcing”, where the overburdened medical care systems are provided services by the subcontractors.

The treatment of foreign patients is declared as an “export” and is deemed “eligible for all fiscal incentives extended to export earnings” by India’s National Health Policy. It is estimated that government and private sectors in India bring between $1 billion and $2 billion into the country. It also said that the medical tourism sector is growing by 30 per cent a year. India is not only producing computer programmers and engineers, but also an estimate of 20,000 to 30,000 doctors and nurses each year.

The Apollo Hospital Enterprises is the largest of the approximate half-dozen medical corporations in India that serves the largest number of medical tourists. They are also keen on moving into medical outsourcing. They also offer overnight computer services for U.S. insurance companies, hospitals along with giant pharmaceutical corporations with drug trials.

The above-mentioned facts add to the increasing influx of tourists who aim for medical tourism in Kerala, where one of the first steps to be implemented is the use of medical disposables like probe covers into the health care system.
