Schizoid personality disorder is a show of indifference to social relationships, with a very limited range of emotional expression and experience. They are typically loners and may be prone to excessive daydreaming.
Symptoms
• Does not desire or enjoy close relationships
• Shows emotional coldness and detachment
• Avoids social activities that involve significant contact with other people
• Almost always chooses solitary activities
• Appears aloof and detached
• Exhibits little observable change in mood
Causes
Though the cause of this personality disorders isn't well known, both genetics and environment are suspected to play a big part.
Treatments
People with this disorder rarely seek treatment, and little is known about which treatments work. Little research has been done on the treatment of schizoid personality disorder in itself. Therapy is not effective as people with schizoid personality disorder have difficulty relating well to others. Medications are not usually recommended for schizoid personality disorder.
