Pessimism and CHD

According to a research which followed the life styles of over 2250 individuals from the age gap of 50 -70 for a total period of a decade revealed that those who died from coronary heart disease had higher levels of pessimism. The research was carried out by treating optimism and pessimism and two different entities and not the opposite of the other. The studies also showed that people have both levels in them. People have an optimistic and pessimistic outlook based on the scenario they are dealing with. The top 25% of pessimistic had double the risk of death due to chronic heart disease. Even though the reason for this is not entirely sure, MikkoPänkäläinen, a psychiatrist at the Paijat-Hame Central Hospital in Lahti, Finland claims that depressed individuals have higher levels of inflammation markers in their blood. These personality traits develop very early in an individual’s life and it is very hard and sometimes near impossible to change that outlook.
