Narcissistic Personality Disorder

A very rare disorder that occurs for only under 1 million cases in a year in India. It is a condition where the individual exhibits a lack of empathy to others and an enormous inflated sense of self-importance. People with narcissistic personality disorder are usually grandiose and truly believe they are superior to their fellow human being and excessively crave admiration and attention. They have a very hard time tolerating criticism and defeat. They treat it as humiliation and feel empty.

•          Unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment

Causes

It is not clearly understood what the exact reasons for this illness are. Genetics, biological factors and environment experiences all play a role in the development of this condition.

Treatment

Treatment for this disorder is particularly challenging as the subject is usually extremely defensive and will never admit to their flaws and vulnerabilities. Therapy sessions might prove to be helpful. Different forms of psychotherapy are also found to show positive results.
