Leg Cramps

Leg cramps are sudden, painful involuntary contractions of a leg muscle which mostly occurs at the feet, calves, and thigh muscles. They mostly occur when the person is sleeping or lying down in general. The period of pain could last for a few seconds till even 9 minutes. The muscles could still feel the effect for about 24 hours.

In most cases there is no definite cause for cramps and are thought to be due to muscle fatigue and nerve dysfunction. Another reason could be that stressing or using a muscle for a long time may trigger a leg cramp during or after the exertion. Dehydration is also seen as another reason.

Some Home remedies for Cramps include:

•          Stopping the activity that caused the cramp

•          Applying a hot pack or cold pack to the affected area.

•          Stretching and massaging the muscle

No medication is recommended nor needed for cramps. The use of pain killers is unnecessary.
