Types of Hallucinations
- Auditory hallucination: You may appear to hear things that are not really present. You may hear voices in your head.
- Visual hallucination: You may see things and people that are not really present. Flashes of light and silhouettes are what is most commonly seen.
- Olfactory hallucination: You start smelling a strange odor in your surroundings or start believing an odor is originating from your body.
- Gustatory hallucinations: You start believing some food or drinks have an odd taste. A common trait of this hallucination is you always spit.
- Tactile hallucination: You feel that something is crawling on your skin or a ticklish sensation now and then
Causes
- Schizophrenia
- Parkinson's disease
- Alzheimer's disease
- Migraines
- Brain tumor
- Epilepsy
Treatment
The very first thing is to identify what causes these hallucinations. This can be done by examining your current physical well-being and previous medical history. EEG, MRI’s are all examples of the scans that a doctor might prescribe.
