Coming from the land of coconuts it is quite hard for us to not include coconut in our dishes; in fact it is considered a delicacy in most other parts of the country. But health experts are now claiming that coconut oil is as unhealthy as beef dripping and butter in getting cholesterol. Experts claim that coconut oil has large amounts of saturated fat which is bad for the health. It increases the level of LDL in blood. Research shows that coconut oil has 82% while butter has 63% and beef has 50%. Scientist have mixed opinion on this topic as some claim that the mixture of fat and coconut oil makes it a healthy combination, while other recommend replacing it with unsaturated vegetable oils such as sunflower and olive oil. Of course there is no denying that fats are a necessary part of a healthy diet and fatty acids helps in absorbing vitamins such as A, D and E. It is always good to heed to warnings especially when it comes to the issue of health. But, I don’t wish to speak standing on two boats but we all just got 1 life so isn’t it better to treat our taste buds while we are here.
