Bleeding Gums

The occasional bleeding of the gums can be caused by vigorously brushing your teeth while frequent gum bleeding may indicate more serious conditions

Causes

Dental care issues are usually the primary cause of bleeding gums and the most common of these include:

•          Gingivitis: Caused due to plaque lying on the gum lines for extensive periods.

•          Periodontitis: It is an advanced form of gingivitis where the gums, jawbone, and supportive tissues that connect your teeth and gums gets infected.

•          Vitamin Deficiencies: A deficiency of Vitamins C and K can also cause gums to bleed easily

Other causes

•          People who wear dentures

•          Pregnant women

•          Bleeding disorders like hemophilia and leukemia

 Treatment

Good dental hygiene is the first step to managing bleeding gums. Proper brushing and flossing can remove plaque from your gum line and reduce your risk of developing periodontal disease. An antiseptic mouthwash to minimize plaque that forms in your mouth is also advised.
