The southern Indian state of Karnataka is preparing to promote premier government institutions as destinations of medical tourism.It is home to 56 medical colleges and provides the highest number of MBBS seats in India. They have proposed to set up a marketing fund for promoting the state as a destination of medical value and also provide financial assistance to entrepreneurs for the wellness tourism. Cities like Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore boast of having the best hospitals in Asia, whereas Udupi, Gokarna and Bijapur are developed as medical destinations. The state also has direct connectivity with world capitals and is rich in eastern healthcare wisdom and has experts in western medicine. Additionally, there also 19 NABH accredited hospitals in Bengaluru.
The above mentioned facts add to the increasing influx of tourists who aim for medical tourism in Kerala, where one of the first steps to be implemented is the use of medical disposables like probe covers into the health care system.
